Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy and have created this policy to better inform you how your “Personally identifiable information” (referred to here as “PII”) might or might not be collected, how it is or could be used, and how you can tell us how you want us to handle your PII. PII, as used in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your PII in accordance with our website.

Application of this Policy

This privacy policy applies only to the Centre College Web site (defined by the domain name 3six.hkange.net), and not to any additional Web sites that may be linked to from the Centre College Web site. Centre College is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of those sites.

Personal Information

We collect the following information:

  • Information you give us. We receive and store information you enter on the Web site or give to us in other ways, such as through e-mail. For example, we store the information you provide us when you request information from the College’s Office of Admission. We use a third party to process payments for some of the services we offer (registration to events, for example) that we describe on the Web site, so we do not directly receive and store your payment information (including credit card information).

  • Automatic information generated from user’s interaction with the Web site. We receive and store certain types of information whenever you interact with the Web site. For example, like many websites, we use “cookies” (which are discussed in more detail below). We also use Google Analytics, which collects additional site usage data (this is also discussed in more detail below).

  • Information obtained by third-party vendors. We receive and store information you provide to external entities including, but not limited to, the College Board, Encoura, Stelter, iModules, and other third-party vendors associated with the college search process, alumni engagement, and fundraising. See more about that below under “Third Parties.”

Website Analytics and Cookies

The Centre College website uses Google Analytics and other similar web analytics tools to collect information about visitor traffic and behavior. Google and other third parties may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect information from this website.

You can use the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on to disable tracking by Google Analytics.

Cookies are small files stored on your computer which aggregate (non-personal) information about site traffic and site interactions which enables us to provide better site experiences for our visitors. The information we collect is based on IP address and is not linked to your personal information.

You can disable cookies though your browser options or visit the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page for more information.

Third Parties

To communicate effectively with you, we may ask for personally-identifiable information that can include, but is not limited to: name, email address, or phone number. We may share your information with third parties that are affiliated with or engaged by the College for the purpose of contacting you about goods, services, or experiences that may be of interest to you; to the extent we are required to do so by law, court order, or subpoena; or if, in our sole judgment, such disclosure is necessary to protect the health, safety, or property of any person.

We do not provide data to a third party for any purpose that is not directly related to College business. If data is provided to a third party, it is usable only as described in a contract defining the service agreement and must be destroyed or returned at the end of the contract according to the terms of the agreement. Before entering in to such a contract with a third party, the College reviews vendor data security practices and seeks assurances that vendors comply with relevant industry best practices or governing standards and laws where appropriate. In addition, we require third-party vendors to sign a data agreement that ensures their data storage is accredited, their access is protected by our Single-Sign-On process, and they agree they will not utilize any PII for any purpose other than carrying out their contracted-for work for the College. A template of this data agreement is available upon request from privacy@hkange.net.

How We Protect Your Data

The College employs a variety of technical and procedural measures to protect your information from misuse and unauthorized access. These measures include practices that limit access to your information to the fewest number of individuals who need that information for operational and strategic purposes. Centre College implements a number of technology strategies such as firewalls, vulnerability management, log monitoring, data encryption, and other technical measures to safeguard your data from unauthorized access.

While we strive to protect the information you provide to us, we cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or receive from us. This is especially true for information you transmit to us via email as we have no way of protecting that information until it reaches us since email does not have the same security features that are built into our website.
